Occupational Programs at Kishwaukee College

In recent years, the nation has seen a general decline in enrollment in both community colleges and universities. At the same time, there has been an increase in students entering 2-year, occupational programs at community colleges. This article describes some of the occupational programs at Kishwaukee College that are training students for careers as automotive technicians, certified production technicians, and welders. Students get one on one interaction with instructors, a curriculum based on current industry needs and technologies, and a chance at internships with area companies. Those participating in these programs come from a variety of age groups and educational and professional backgrounds, and most of the programs can be fit into existing work schedules.
