Advanced Manufacturing Training for Chicago’s West Side
April 18, 2015
Two local groups, BLUE1647 and Bethel New Life, have partnered to bring advanced manufacturing training to residents of Chicago’s Austin community and surrounding West Side. Classes will provide awareness, training, certification, and technical resources for residents interested in preparing for careers with local manufacturers. BLUE1647, a provider of technology workforce development, has partnered with Bethel New Life, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for the community, to help train residents for careers in advanced manufacturing. Classes will initially be held at Bethel’s 10,000 square foot facility at 1140 N. Lamon Ave. Attendees will learn on 3D printing and milling machines. According to Lori Vallelunga, President and CEO of Bethel New Life, “we need to cultivate a new generation of locally-based, entrepreneurial companies that can generate the additional jobs above-and-beyond those that already exist, and prepare local residents to be qualified for the resulting positions in order to bring about sustainable community transformation on the West Side.”
