The Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association (TRMA), in partnership with JJC, is joining with over 800 nationwide locations to sponsor a Manufacturing Day Event—MFG DAY. TRMA’s MFG DAY (Tuesday, October 7th from 9:30-12:30 at JJC’s Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center) is for 9th – 12th grade students with an interest in S.T.E.M. or Applied Technology (CTE) careers or fields of study. To set the stage for the display case, TRMA has engaged: Ray McElroy, a former Chicago Bear’s cornerback, as the keynote speaker, a dynamic local manufacturing executive to introduce the value and diversity of our local manufacturing, and local personality, Scott Slocum, to emcee an upbeat, informative program. (WJOL will be broadcasting live from the event!)
Be there on October 7th for demonstrations of applied S.T.E.M., such as the chemistry behind removing the trans-fat, but keeping the flavor, taste and texture, or creating the “active ingredient” in beauty or household items. Participate in pure science demonstrations, experiment with a non-Newtonian fluid’s magic-like properties¾science is the building block for manufacturing. Additionally, get up close and personal with some of the technology that drives the industry. Test your welding techniques with a virtual welding simulator; do you have the skills to build and maintain the machines and pipes?
Meet and converse with industry professionals about their diverse and rewarding S.T.E.M. -centric careers. Moreover, there will be education professionals available to help students plan the next step towards an exciting S.T.E.M. related career.
