Jaime L. asks…
Q. I’m in the CNC Operator program. Will I be trained to program CNC Machines?
A. Yes, you’ll be taught the code for programming. But with employment you may not be performing actual programming of machines. According to Bill Downey, President of Hi-Grade Welding and Manufacturing, he described to me just what his CNC operators do. He said customer files are received as solid models whereupon his engineers download them to their CNC machines. The operators need to know the code because they may need to alter a program if a tool breaks or tool wear requires certain offsets to be adjusted.
If you want to increase your worth to a business, stay in school and finish the appropriate certificates or complete the AAS degree. At Hi-Grade Bill has a tuition reimbursement policy to encourage students to maximize their knowledge and value to his firm.
